Asian Music Research Institute, which is part of the College of Music, SNU, was founded in 1976 with the aim of conducting research and gathering information about Korean and Asian ethnic music.
The institute organizes domestic and international academic conferences annually, focusing on contentious issues in the academic community. Research papers presented at these conferences are published biannually in the "Asian Music" journal to consolidate research accomplishments in the field of Korean musicology.
The domestic academic conferences organized by Asian Music Research Institute cover both the theoretical and practical aspects of Korean music.
The institute aims to explore Korean music in both synchronic and diachronic contexts. Additionally, Asian Music Research Institute hosts international academic conferences to facilitate academic exchanges and communications.
