    • Sebastian Claren studied musicology, philosophy and art history in Heidelberg and Berlin (PhD), and composition in Berlin and Freiburg (DMA). His composition teachers were Walter Zimmermann and Mathias Spahlinger. He has participated in workshops such as Salvatore Sciarrino’s composition seminar at the Stuttgart State Opera in 2004 and the International Gugak Workshop at the National Gugak Center in Seoul in 2014.

    • Sebastian Claren was a lecturer at the Darmstadt Summer Courses and the Ostrava New Music Days. From 2016 to 2018 he taught contemporary music at the Musikhochschule Leipzig. Since 2021 he teaches composition at Seoul National University.

    • In 2000, Sebastian Claren published his monography Neither, Die Musik Morton Feldmans, on the complete works of Morton Feldman. He published two portrait CDs on the Wergo and the Kairos label. His works have been performed at venues and festivals such as Auftakt Alte Oper Frankfurt, Bludenzer Tage Zeitgemäßer Musik, California Institute of the Arts, Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Eclat Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart, Holland Festival, Klangwerkstatt Berlin, Kunstfestspiele Herrenhausen, Münchener Biennale, National Gugak Center Seoul, Operadagen Rotterdam, Rainy Days Luxembourg, Salzburger Festspiele, Seoul Performing Arts Festival, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Tongyeong International Music Festival, Ultraschall Berlin, Wien Modern by internationally renowned soloists, ensembles and orchestras such as Teodoro Anzellotti, Lukas Fels, Minhee Park, Hong Yoo, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Ascolta, Ensemble Recherche, Klangforum Wien, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Schola Heidelberg, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt and Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart.

    • Sebastian Claren has received scholarships for residencies in New York (DAAD), Paris (Cité Internationale des Arts), Rome (Villa Massimo), and Los Angeles (Villa Aurora). He has been awarded numerous prizes, including the Kranichsteiner Music Prize Darmstadt, the Composition Prize Stuttgart, the Boris Blacher Prize Berlin, and the Sponsorship Prize of the Ernst von Siemens Music Fondation.
