Music Theory major was newly added to Composition department as a sub-major area in 1981. And in 2023, Theory major became an individual major, changed name to Musicology. Musicology major usually deals with Musicology, Music Theory research among with other categories related to Musicology such as Music criticism, Music analysis research, Music history etc. From 1984, Master program was created, and from 1989, Ph.d program was made in interdisciplinary program joint with Humanities department which consequently became a separate Ph.d Program of Musicology major, releasing many graduate students in field of musicology research.
