Jongwoo Yim graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in composition, completed the Sonology course at the Hague Royal Conservatory in the Netherlands, graduated from the Rotterdam Conservatorium in the Netherlands, and graduated from the SONVS (Composition of computer, eletroacoustic and instrumentale music) in Lyon, France.
He was selected from the 'Cursus annuel' in Ircam, France and he presented research on composition and computer music.
His works were premiered numerous international music festivals, such as, Gaudeamus, Resonance, Agora, SICMF, ISCM world music day, ACL New music festival, Alea III, Faroese Art Festival in Islands, Havana Electronics Music Festival, Festival Primavera Havana, IEAMM in Brazil, ISCM World New Music Day stuttgart 2006, EMW Athens,Journées Grame, Festival Champs libres, Ars Nova, CREAMA&IRCAM concert, VII Moscow International Festival Actual Music, Leipzig Ensemble Festival, the 2020 Kaohsiung Contemporary Percussion Festival etc.
In addition, his works were commissioned and premiered by prominent performers and esnemble at domestic and abroad, including MetaDuo, Daniel Kientzy, Laurent Bomônt, Soomin Lee, percussion duo Moitié, Sewon Rah, Yi-Ping Yang, Fabrice Jünger, Jean Geoffroy, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Ensemble TIMF, MCME, Ensemble EINS, Project 21AND, Kyu-ri Kim, and C-Camerata Taipei, etc.
He hosted the international symposium of 'The 1st International IRCAM Forum in Seoul' in 2014, and was invited as a invitation composer for WOCMAT Taipei Taiwan, Composer's reading in Kazan Russia, Rice University Texas USA.
He has served as a professor of composition at Hanyang University, a professor of electronic music composition at the graduate school, director of electro-acoustic music research institut at CREAMA, and has been working as the president of ISCM Korea since March 2019, and is currently nurturing younger students as a professor of composition at Seoul National University.
