Doo-Min Kim, born in Seoul, South Korea, received his first cello lessons at the age of nine. After studying at the Korean National University of Arts in Seoul he went to Germany in 1998 to continue his studies with Tilmann Wick in Hannover and Frans Helmerson in Cologne. He found further artistic inspiration attending master classes given by Lynn Harrell, Arto Noras and Boris Pergamenschikow.
 
As a soloist and a chamber musician Doo-Min Kim has appeared in numerous concerts throughout Korea, Europe and the USA, among others with the Aspen Music Festival Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Philharmonia Hungarica and the Tapiola Chamber Orchestra. Under the direction of André Previn, he toured as a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway and Germany.
 
Doo-Min Kim has successfully taken part in numerous international competitions, including the Aspen Concerto Competition and the International Paulo Violoncello Competition in Helsinki. He has received various awards, including the Prix Apcav from the Verbier Festival Academy and the European Culture Foundation's Prize for Young Artists.
 
From 2000 to 2005 Doo-Min Kim received a scholarship from the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation. This gave him the opportunity to play numerous concerts with Anne-Sophie Mutter, who has had a great musical influence on him. As a member of the soloist - ensemble “Mutter’s Virtuosi” he gave concerts since 2011 together with her in Europe and East Asia.
 
Doo-Min Kim plays a Jean Baptiste Vuillaume cello, which belongs to the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation.
 
Doo-Min Kim has served as principal cellist of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra from 2004 to 2022. He is currently teaching at the College of Music Seoul National University.
