서울대학교와 독일 프라이부르크 국립음대에서 작곡을 공부한 후, 영국 서섹스대학교에서 음악학 석사, 서울대학교에서 서양음악학 박사학위를 취득했다. 최근 논문으로 “보이는 소리, 보이지 않는 소리: 헬무트 락헨만의 기악구체음악에 대한 탈어쿠스마틱 해석”(2018), “소리와 기보체계 간의 경계 또는 관계에 대하여: 음악의 문자학을 위한 기초적 고찰”(2021), “한국 전통기보체계의 음악문자학 기초연구: 서양 전통기보체계와의 비교고찰”(2022)이 있으며, 역서 『화성학』(Diether de la Motte 저), 저서 『전환기의 작곡가: 새로운 예술을 향하여』, 『화성이론과 분석: 리만•포스트리만 이론 다시 읽기』(2019년 대한민국학술원 우수학술도서 선정)가 있다. 한국교원대학교 음악교육과 조교수를 거쳐 현재 서울대학교 음악대학 부교수로 재직 중이다.
Jeong Eun Seo
Associate Professor of music theory at Seoul National University. Seo studied composition and music theory at Seoul National University, Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and the University of Sussex, and received a PhD degree in Musicology from Seoul National University. Recent papers include “Sound Unseen or Sound Seen: Dis-acousmatic Meanings of Helmut Lachenmann’s musique concrète instrumentale”(2018), “Borders or Relations between Sound and Notation: Some Preliminary Notes on Musical Graphemics”(2021), “A Preliminary Note on Musical Graphemics in Korean Traditional Notation: Comparison with Western Traditional Notation”(2022). Her book Harmonic Theory and Analysis: Riemann and Post-Riemann Functional Theory Revisited (2019) was selected as an Outstanding Academic Books by the National Academy of Sciences of Korea.
